Potential Issue with RPNs being issued by Revenue around 31st January
As many of you may be aware Revenue have been issuing updated RPNs for employees who received PUP payments at any stage in 2021.
These update may also apply to employees who are working but who is jointly assessed with a spouse in receipt of PUP.
It seems that in a large number of cases employees have had their tax credits reduced to zero or very significantly reduced and this is resulting in a significant amount of PAYE being deducted from employee's wages.
We have not had any confirmation from Revenue, but it is our feeling that Revenue may have made a mistake with these updated RPNs.
If you have not already updated your employee's RPNs this week then we would suggest that it might be better to wait until next week to update any such RPNs.
We are fully aware that employers are required to use the most up to date RPNS issued by Revenue but these RPNs have been causing huge problems for employers this week and it is our opinion that Revenue have made a mistake.
However, you should decide for yourself if you want to update your RPNs now or to wait until next week.
